Meharry-Vanderbilt Community Engaged Research Core 2015 Mini Grant Awards

Now in its seventh year, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community Engaged Research Core Mini Grant program has provided $139,072 in funding to 35 academic-community partnerships. Based on feedback from past awardees and community advisors, CERC’s  2015 Mini Grant award cycle was modified to better support the creation of sustainable academic-community research partnerships and now offers two tracks for applicants – a $2,000 partnership development grant and a $10,000 award that will enable community driven translational research.

National Public Health Week Schedule of Events

This week is National Public Health Week, sponsored by the Master of Public Health Ambassadors, the Health Sciences Student Association and the Meharry Vanderbilt Alliance. The event last until Saturday and includes several health-related activities, listed below:

Community Research Partners to hold 'Insure Tennessee' presentation April 10

The Community Research Partners will host an "Insure Tennessee" presentation April 10 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at United Way Metro, 250 Venture Circle, Nashville. The presentation will outline the key components of the Insure Tennessee proposal, analyze the circumstances that led to its defeat in the Special Legislative Session in February and describe the efforts of a broad coalition of advocates across the state to resurrect it before the end of the Regular Session.

U.S. Ambassador Deborah Birx meets Meharry Medical College researchers for HIV/AIDS roundtable discussion

U.S. Ambassador Deborah Birx, M.D. met with representatives of Meharry Medical College Thursday for a roundtable discussion concerning HIV and AIDS health disparities around the world. Ambassador Birx is the Coordinator of the United States Government Activities to Combat HIV/AIDS and U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. Birx is a world-renowned medical expert and leader in the field of HIV/AIDS. Her three-decade-long career has focused on HIV/AIDS immunology, vaccine research and global health.

IPE Student Pilot Project Recognition Ceremony will be April 9

The Inter-Institutional Interprofessional Education Student Pilot Project will hold its Recognition Ceremony April 9 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.  The Pilot Project is an inter-institutional and interprofessional collaborative program between the academic community and community partners.

MVA 15-Year Anniversary Lecture Series planned March 30

The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance 15-Year Anniversary Lecture Series on Health Disparities & Population Health will be held March 30 from noon until 1 p.m. The series features Giselle Corbie-Smth, MD, MSC and Alan Richmond. Corbie Smith is a Kenan Distinguished Professor and a member of the Department of Social Medicine, the Department of Medicine and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine, as well as director for both the Center for Health Equity Research and the NC TraCS Institute, CARES.
