AAMC Champion Award brings National Scholars to learn about Community Engagement Studios

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Researchers and administrators from University of Utah and George Washington University said the Community Engagement Studio (CE Studio) developed by the Meharry-Vanderbilt Community Engaged Research Core (CERC) provided them with a better insight into the engagement of research stakeholders. The CE Studio is intended to elicit patient, community or other stakeholder input on a research project.

MVA presents Principles of Research & Writing Designs workshops

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Since June 19, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance began presenting a series of educational sessions on the fundamentals of grantsmanship, scientific manuscript writing and research methodology. The sessions are targeted towards health professional students/trainees. Lunch is provided based on RSVPs. Sessions are held on select Fridays at noon. Previous sessions are available for download:

MVA study shows benefits of pharmacy care in diabetes treatment

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A recent study performed by researchers working with the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance (MVA) showed that underserved patients with sub-optimally controlled type 2 diabetes cared for by pharmacists were more adherent to their medication regimen and had better blood sugar control than those who did not have a pharmacist in their care team.

Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance welcomes newest intern, Ryan Ber

NAHVILLE, Tenn. The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance’s newest intern, Ryan Ber, is a man of few words. When asked what prompted him to study medicine, he said simply, “an interest in the human body.” Ber is a student at Meharry Medical College. He expects to graduate in 2018 with his MD, and he intends to become a primary care physician.

MVA holds Walking Wednesday

The importance of physical fitness, doctors say, cannot be emphasized enough. Physical activity is essential to prevent and reduce the risks of many diseases and improve physical and mental health. With that in mind, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance once again kicked off Walking Wednesday, a campus- and community-wide wellness program, last week. Walkers met at the Alliance office on 1999 Meharry Blvd. at noon and followed pre-planned routes around the surrounding campuses.
