Call for Posters: 3rd Annual Health Equity Poster Session

Dr. Clifton K. Meador dedicated his life to improving health outcomes for historically excluded populations by providing and advocating for quality health care in marginalized communities. This poster session honors Dr. Meador's legacy by showcasing research that embodies his vision of equitable and accessible health care for all. Student posters that reflect research and/or programs dedicated to improving access to quality health care for the marginalized are eligible for submission.

 

Eligibility: 

  • Students from Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Tennessee State University.

 

Poster Judging Criteria: 

  1. Significance: The relevance of the project to health equity is of the most importance. Does the poster directly address health equity? The CDC states that "Health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to attain his or her full health potential" and no one is "disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or any other socially, economically, demographically, or geographically defined circumstances or physical condition." https://www.cdc.gov/global-health-equity/php/about/index.html 

  2. Importance of topic: Does the application challenge and/or seek to shift current health equity research or clinical practice? Does the poster provide any novel concepts, approaches or methodologies or intervention(s) to be developed? Does the poster include innovative approaches for stakeholder/community engagement?

  3. Approach: Overall strategy, methodology, and analysis to be used. If appropriate, feasibility, preliminary studies, potential problems and alternative strategies. Role of relevant stakeholders and /or community engagement in the design and conduct of the study.

  4. Alignment to the mission of Dr. Meador: Poster illustrates research and/or programs to improve access to quality health care for low-income and uninsured people.

Awards:

  • 1st Place: $500

  • 2nd Place: $350

  • 3rd Place: $150
