Matthew Walker's Dr. Nitara Carswell receives Alpha Omega Alpha Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA) is proud to announce that Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center's (MWCHC) Dr. Nitara Carswell has been nominated and chosen as this year's recipient of the Alpha Omega Alpha Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award.  

AΩA is a professional medical organization that recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. 

Each year, AΩA inductees recognize a community physician who contributed to the education and training of medical students.

As part of this honor, Dr. Carswell will be recognized by students and faculty at the AΩA Induction Ceremony, to be held on March 20, 2017, at the University Club of Nashville. Awardees receive a framed certificate from Alpha Omega Alpha, an engraved AΩA key ring and their name added to a plaque that hangs in the Dean's office of the school where they volunteer.

A statement issued by MWCHC said, "MWCHC's Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Katina Beard, Medical Director Dr. Michele Williams, providers and staff are extremely proud of Dr. Carswell's accomplishment."

Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, Inc. (MWCHC) is community based and focuses on comprehensive primary care programs for residents in Davidson County and the surrounding counties of Middle Tennessee. We are located at 14th and Historic Jefferson Street. Family nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, and family physicians provide medical care to patients from the prenatal stage through geriatrics. About the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance

Founded in 1999, the Alliance bridges the institutions of Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Its mission is to enrich learning and advance clinical research in three primary areas -- community engagement, interprofessional education and research -- by developing and supporting mutually beneficial partnerships between Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the communities they serve. Through community engagement, the Alliance serves a large community of stakeholders including surrounding universities and colleges, community organizations, faith-based outlets and community health centers. Its interprofessional education enhances students' interdisciplinary understanding and improves patient outcomes through integrated care.
