Black Girls In S.T.E.A.M. Summit​

High school-age and undergraduate level young Black women are invited to the Black Girls in S.T.E.A.M. summit on the Meharry campus Saturday, April 15th.

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Cal Turner Family Center for Student Education. The Black Girls In S.T.E.A.M. Summit is designed to introduce attendees to women working in careers in sciencetechnologyengineering, the arts and mathematics. The gathering will offer students tips and encouragement to follow their interests in those fields and include:

  • panel discussions with leading professionals in the STEM fields
  • professionalism and wage gap talks and an inspiring art project with “Creative Girls Rock” will power the day
  • keynote address by Tennessee State University alumna Clarice Phelps, a nuclear chemist recognized as the first Black woman to help discover an element on the periodic table.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all registered participants.
