Reflecting on 25 Years of Partnership

As we welcome in the new year, we reflect and celebrate our recently celebrated 25th anniversary, recognizing the ongoing partnership between Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Events hosted by the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance captured and highlighted a glimpse of the impact of this 25-year partnership. The reflective lectureship and a celebratory gala honored the work and commitment of the MVA in fostering relationships between Meharry Medical College, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and the community. Over the past 25 years, the MVA has become a pioneering force for health equity, innovation, and collaboration, focusing on improving health outcomes for underserved communities through groundbreaking research, education, and programs.

The Dr. Clifton K. Meader 3rd Annual Lectureship featured a roundtable discussion, amongst esteemed institutional leaders, Dr. James E.K. Hildreth of Meharry and Dr. Jeffrey Balser and Dr. Consuelo H. Wilkins of Vanderbilt. The event highlighted the successes, lessons learned, and future goals of the MVA, which has been a trailblazer in fostering collaboration across institutions to promote healthcare innovation, diversity, and community outreach. As a key part of the program, leaders shared insights on the evolving role of partnerships in shaping the future of medical education, research, community engagement, and healthcare delivery.

The following evening, the MVA celebrated 25 Years of Partnership with a special gala event. It gathered distinguished guests, including leaders from the healthcare and academic sectors, community advocates, alumni, and supporters of the MVA. The event was highlighted with a reunion of MVA staff members over the past 25 years, a short award ceremony, and a proclamation for Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance Day by Mayor Freddie O’Connell.

The events served as a testament to the enduring partnership between Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University Medical Center and their shared commitment to improving health care for all. We cannot wait to create more partnerships in 2025!
