General Information

Target Audience
The audience will include professionals from the areas of diabetes prevention, healthcare delivery, translational research, community practice and public policy. This would include caregivers (physicians, nurses, public and community health staff), epidemiologists, social scientists, behaviorists, psychologists, diabetes educators, health administrators and policy makers at the city, state and national level. Students are also encouraged to attend in order to more fully understand current progress and remaining barriers towards adequate prevention and management of diabetes disparities.

Purpose
The purpose of the conference is to assemble experts with different perspectives in an effort to better understand disparities in diabetes, and to guide future research, policy, and public health practices in terms of prevention and management of diabetes, with a focus on special populations.

Objectives
After participating in this CME activity, participants should be able to describe and discuss

      * The causes and impact of health disparities in diabetes
      * Challenges to improving diabetes care in ethnic and racial minorities
      * Approaches to translating the latest advances in diabetes research into practice for ethnic and racial minorities.

Registration
The registration fee entitles the participant admission to the conference, CME credit, all course materials, conference related continental breakfast, lunches and evening banquet on Monday, and refreshments throughout the meeting. We cannot guarantee course materials on-site to anyone registering at the meeting after Monday, November 12th, 2007. Cancellation
A handling fee of $50 will be deducted from cancellation refunds. Refund requests must be received by mail or fax prior to November 4th, 2007. No refunds will be made thereafter. In the event of cancellation or rescheduling of the CME activity due to unforeseen circumstances, the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance will refund registration fees in full. The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance is not responsible for non-transferable, non-refundable airline tickets or hotel accommodations purchased in connection with attendance at this CME activity.
